Environmental Policy

T Brown Group is aware of its duties and responsibilities for the environment as stated in the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environment Protection Act 1990 and the Environmental Protection (Duty of care) regulations 1991 and the other regulations made under this legislation.

 

There are legal requirements on T Brown Group and our clients to minimise any adverse environmental aspects for our activities through effective planning and operational controls.

 

The company will fully co-operate with the stated environmental policies of our clients, where it affects the work of the company and its sub-contractors. The directors and senior management of the company are committed to support the continual improvement of all the environmental objectives, where it is relevant to T Brown Groups’ activities, products and services.

 

Waste

Construction waste is classed as a special waste and as such should be removed from a site in a controlled and safe manner, to a licensed waste facility. All hazardous materials, i.e. asbestos, chemicals, lead etc. must be managed and handled by a competent licensed carrier. The waste must be disposed of in the correct method in compliance with current Environmental legislation. Records of all licensed waste must be maintained and kept by the waste producer and be kept available for inspection and audit purposes.

 

Hazardous Waste

Substances must not be deliberately discharged into drains or allowed to soak into the ground and watercourses. If there are any accidental releases of such substances, they must be reported to the Environmental Agency promptly and properly investigated by the Company and the resultant corrective or preventive actions published.

 

Noise Pollution

Noise pollution will be controlled in compliance with legislation and the code of practice control of noise for construction sites. T Brown Group shall take all practical precautions to prevent or reduce any nuisance or inconvenience to the neighbours of a site and to the public generally, and shall use all practical means to keep noise and vibration to a minimum.

 

Policy Objectives

T Brown Group is committed to working with others towards establishing and then maintaining environmentally safe working practices that have a minimal effect on the environment. The aims are to reduce waste and the consumption of resources, to reduce or eliminate the production of polluting releases into the environment within our sphere of influence.

 

T Brown Groups’ environmental top-level objectives in relation to its activities are:

 

  • To minimise the amount of waste product generated by our activities
  • To recycle as much waste and surplus product as is economical and practical
  • To effectively manage the waste product and ensure that it is disposed on in the correct manner at approved and licensed facilities
  • To ensure that chemical and hazardous waste is disposed of safely
  • To ensure that the activities of T Brown Group does not have a detrimental effect on watercourses
  • To ensure that the condition of all associated land will be returned to its original condition or improved as required
  • To ensure that all emissions from our vehicles, plant and machinery and general activities into the atmosphere are minimised and effectively controlled
  • To ensure that noise pollution is minimised by the use of suppression and appropriate controls

 

 

The company has communicated its Environmental Policy and procedures to all company personnel who will co-operate with the company to ensure its legal and moral obligations, duties and responsibilities are met.

 

The company will undertake environmental management reviews of its existing policy and objectives together with any new regulatory developments, any changes in the company’s activities and any changes in the sensitivity of the environment in the T Brown Group operates. We are monitoring our performance to ensure we achieve continual improvement in our activities that have an impact on the Environment.
